The One Time Settlement Scheme (OTS) run by the Electricity Department to provide relief to the defaulters ended on January 16. To enable maximum number of consumers to register on the last day, the offices of the Electricity Department remained open till late night. By the time the consumers reached the office, they were registered under the OTS scheme. So that they can get the benefits of OTS scheme.

It is noteworthy that Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited, Lucknow had implemented One Time Settlement Scheme (OTS) from November 8 to provide relief to defaulters and consumers caught stealing electricity. The OTS scheme, which started on November 8, ended on December 31. The first phase of the scheme ran from November 8 to 31 and the second phase from November 1 to 15.

In the first phase, defaulters were given 65 percent relaxation in fine, while in the second phase, defaulters got the benefit of 60 percent. The third and final phase of the OTS scheme ran from 16 to 31 December. Due to which the government increased it till January 16. In this phase also, defaulters were given 50 percent relaxation in fine.

The OTS issued from 8 November ended on 16 January. By the time the consumers reached the office on the last day, instructions were given to open the office, so that more and more consumers could get the benefit of OTS.-Arvind Kumar, Superintending Engineer Electrical
