Over 2000 Mummified Sheep Heads Unearthed In Egypt

It is not surprising to find mummies in Egypt. But, archaeologists have now found mummies of more than 2000 sheep’s heads here. These heads of sheep were left as offerings in the building of Pharaoh Ramses II. This information has been given by the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities. A team of American archaeologists from New York University also discovered mummies of dogs, goats, cows, gazelle and mongoose at Abydos in southern Egypt, famous for its temples and tombs.

Iskandar Sameh, the head of the American mission, says that the sheep’s heads were a form of ‘offering’ presented to Ramses II. This shows the way of worship that happened 1,000 years after his death. Ramses II ruled Egypt from 1304 to 1237 BC.

New discovery will help to know a lot

Mustafa Waziri, head of Egyptian Antiquities, says that this will help to know a lot about the building of Ramses II. This discovery would date its construction between 2374 and 2140 BC and would also date its activities to the Ptolemaic period from 323 to 30 BC.

Remains of 4,000 old palace were also found

In addition to the remains of mummified animals, archaeologists also found the remains of a palace dating back some 4,000 years and with walls five meters thick. Apart from this, the explorers have also found many sculptures, papyri, remains of ancient trees, leather shoes and clothes.

Economic crisis looms over Egypt

Egypt is home to about 105 million people and is currently facing an economic crisis. 10 percent of Egypt’s GDP is dependent on tourism, it provides employment to about two million people.

Cairo expects around 30 million tourists to visit Egypt every year by 2028. However, before the corono epidemic, this figure was 13 million. Cairo regularly announces new discoveries in Egypt.
