Paddy Procurement In Bihar: Paddy procurement has been completed in most of the states of the country. There are only a few states where paddy is being grown. Recently, a record purchase of 107 lakh MT paddy was made in Chhattisgarh. The pace of paddy procurement in Uttar Pradesh is very slow. At the same time, the condition of procurement of paddy is not much better in Bihar as well. Farmers say that seriousness has not been shown even from the level of the state government regarding the purchase of paddy. This is the reason why farmers are facing problems.
Paddy procurement is far from the target in Bihar
The target of paddy procurement in Bihar is 45 lakh MT. This target is to be achieved by 15 February. But here the correct figures of paddy purchase have not been released from the state government level. The number of districts in Bihar is 48. It has been told that the condition of paddy procurement has remained extremely sluggish in every district. The target of procurement of 9786 MT paddy was achieved in Jamui district of Bihar. But till now the target has not been fulfilled. According to the report, only ten days are left for paddy procurement. Only 5906 MT paddy has been procured from 949 farmers of the district. At the same time, Rs 8.5 crore has been sent to the accounts of 641 farmers.
Paddy procurement was started from November 1
The state government showed seriousness in starting paddy procurement. At the same time, the state government is not that serious about achieving the target of paddy procurement. Paddy procurement was started in North Bihar from November 1. On the other hand, paddy procurement took place in South Bihar from 15th November. In any case, the target has to be achieved by February 15 in the state. But this is not happening. A total of 477 mills and 1054 private mills are working here under PACS.
Why farmers are not reaching government procurement centers
In the year 2022-23, the central government has fixed the support price of Rs 2040 for the general category of paddy and Rs 2060 per quintal for grade-A. Paddy up to 17 percent moisture will have to be purchased. In Bihar, the farmer is not reaching the government paddy centers only. According to the media report, in fact, the farmer feels trouble after reaching the government centers. There his paddy could not be procured at the right time. At the same time, traders take the paddy of the farmer at private centers. Money is also available immediately. Apart from this, the rate of paddy procurement is not much less than the MSP. Private businessmen are buying farmer’s paddy from 1900 to 2000 rupees.
