Pakistan Election Results 2024: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari on Tuesday (20 February 2024) said that if no one is ready to change their stance, they fear a deadlock in forming a coalition government in Pakistan, which will be the biggest change in the political scenario of the country. Indicates a deepening crack. Bilawal’s comments come a day after the latest round of talks between top leaders of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) on Monday (19 February 2024) ended inconclusively.

After the fractured mandate in the February 8 elections, a consensus has not yet been reached on the issue of power-sharing between the two parties to form a coalition government at the Centre. The PPP is reportedly demanding key constitutional posts like President, Chairman of the Senate and Speaker of the National Assembly to support former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s PML-N. According to the news of ‘Dawn’ newspaper, Bilawal told journalists in the Supreme Court that PPP and he are firm on their stand and stressed that they will not change it at any cost.

“If someone else wants to change their stance, progress can be made,” he said. If they are not ready to change it, I fear a deadlock.” He said that this will not benefit democracy or the parliamentary system. Former Foreign Minister Bilawal (35) said, ‘If I vote for PML-N, I will vote on its own terms.’ At the same time, the party of former Prime Minister of Pakistan Nawaz Sharif has described the 2018 general elections as a milestone in the history of Pakistan. Terming it a ‘black chapter’, he said that the electoral history of the country has not been fair and this situation has persisted for many decades amid allegations of rigging and manipulation.

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) senator Irfan Siddiqui said in the upper house of parliament, “In 2018, Nawaz Sharif was in jail, he was not allowed to contest elections. Was it fair then? And there was no commotion at that time. Sharif, who belongs to the country’s most powerful political family and leads the PML-N, was disqualified from holding public office by the Supreme Court in 2017 and the accountability court also sentenced him to 10 years in jail.

Due to conviction and sentence he could not contest the general elections. Siddiqui said in the Senate that it is true that Pakistan’s electoral history has not been perfect and this situation has persisted for many decades. He said that no democratically elected government was allowed to complete its tenure. “The history of our elections is really not the best,” he said. But why are we not talking about the 2018 elections? Whatever happened in the 2018 general elections is a dark chapter in the history of our country. A lot had happened then and perhaps the same happened this year also.

And if the same happens again, it will happen in the entire country, not just in Punjab or Balochistan. This also happened in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. ‘In the 2018 general elections, Imran Khan’s party emerged as the largest party and formed the government at the center with the support of other parties. PML-N had lost the elections. Referring to the recent talks of Khan’s party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf with JUI-F, Irfan questioned why the party led by the former prime minister does not hold talks with other parties.

He said, ‘… now the time has come that the politics of confrontation should end. ‘Independent candidates won 93 National Assembly seats in the elections and most of them Imran Khan Were supported by the party. PML-N won 75 seats, while Pakistan People’s Party stood third with 54 seats. Muttahida Qaumi Movement Pakistan has won 17 seats.
