Pakistan Politics: Pakistan’s Tehreek-e-Insaf Party (PTI) chief Imran Khan on Monday indicated for the first time that he would return to the National Assembly to be part of the consultation process for a caretaker government for the year-end general elections.
In April last year, 131 PTI members of the National Assembly resigned after Imran was removed from the post of prime minister through a no-confidence motion. However, the Speaker of the National Assembly has not yet accepted his resignation and has called all PTI MPs to verify whether his resignation is genuine and voluntary.
What is the session of the National Assembly?
Speaking to reporters at his residence in Lahore on Monday, Imran said that if we do not return to the National Assembly, the PML-N-led coalition government will form a caretaker government (this year) in consultation with its chosen opposition leader Raja Riaz. after completion of his tenure in August). We will not let this happen.
This is the first time Imran has expressed his stand on returning to the National Assembly after stepping down from the post of Prime Minister. Imran has also said that President Arif Alvi will soon ask Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to seek a vote of confidence in the National Assembly.
PM Shahbaz Sharif should prove his majority in the assembly
Imran Khan Talking to the media here, Shahbaz Sharif had taken our test in Punjab and now it is his turn to prove whether he has majority in the National Assembly or not. Citing differences in the federal alliance, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chairman Khan said that first Shehbaz Sharif should pass the trust vote…and later we have another plan for him.
