Former chief of Pakistani intelligence agency ISI, Faiz Hameed, was taken into custody by the Pakistan Army on Monday. Now action has been initiated against him under the provisions of the Pakistan Army Act.

ISI chief is selected through these processes
In Pakistan, the process of selecting the chief of ISI (Inter-Services Intelligence) mainly takes place at the high level of the army. Let us tell you how the ISI chief is selected-
Role of Army Chief: The ISI Chief is selected by the Chief of Army Staff of Pakistan. The Army Chief prepares a list of eligible candidates for this post.
Selection of Candidates: Usually, there are three to four senior army officers (at least of the rank of General) nominated for the post of ISI Chief. These candidates have special experience and qualifications in matters of military intelligence and security.
PM’s approval: Although the selection of the ISI Chief is done by the Army Chief, it is sent to the Prime Minister for final approval. The ISI Chief is appointed only after the approval of the Prime Minister.
Tenure: The tenure of the ISI Chief is usually 3 years, but it can also be extended. It completely depends on the government and the Army Chief.
What did the Supreme Court say about Faiz Hameed
On November 14, 2023, the Supreme Court of Pakistan said in a written order that the allegations against former ISI chief Lieutenant General Hameed are extremely serious. In fact, the management of the private housing scheme Top City had made serious allegations against former ISI chief Faiz Hameed and claimed that he had raided the offices and houses of its owner Moiz Khan.
After which the management of Top City went to the Supreme Court and then in November 2023, the Supreme Court asked the owner of the housing society to approach the concerned departments including the Ministry of Defense to settle his complaints against the former ISI chief and his associates.
