According to Al Jazeera’s report, many people are still missing after the landslide devastation in Papua New Guinea. People were engaged in rescue operations on Monday. Meanwhile, they heard the voices of some people trapped under the debris. After this, people who reached the spot rescued the couple safely after a lot of hard work.

Johnson and Jacqueline Yandam said they were very grateful and called their safety a miracle. Jacqueline said, “We thank God for saving our lives. We were sure we were going to die, but the huge rocks did not crush us. It is really difficult to explain because we were trapped under the rubble for about eight hours, then we were rescued. We feel that we were rescued for some purpose.

According to the Papua New Guinea government, more than 2,000 people are feared buried alive in a landslide in the South Pacific island nation. The accident occurred in the village of Yambali early Friday when a part of a mountain collapsed. People were sleeping at the time of the landslide. The village is located in an unstable and remote area in the interior of this poor, rural populated country located on the northern coast of Australia, making search and rescue operations complex and dangerous.
PM Modi offered help
Meanwhile, India’s Prime Minister Modi has also expressed grief. He said that India is ready to provide all possible help. In a post on the social media platform X, the Prime Minister said, “I am deeply saddened by the death and destruction caused by the devastating landslide in Papua New Guinea. Our heartfelt condolences to the affected families and we pray for the speedy recovery of the injured. India is ready to provide all possible assistance.”
