Neeraj Kumar/Begusarai. The craze of fast food is continuously increasing in Bihar. This is the reason that now you will get to eat chaat-pakodas, chow mein, burgers etc. from the district headquarters to the village squares. Especially before Corona, when the people who were working at any dhaba or restaurant in the metro city came back here, they started setting up stalls in their own area.
In Begusarai too, many street food stalls will be seen on the roadside. But, you will get to eat the most delicious chaat, papdi and golgappa at the stall of Suraj Kumar alias Chhotu, which has been running for 20 years near UCO Bank on Begusarai-Khagaria road. Most of the travelers traveling from Begusarai to Khagaria proceed ahead only after tasting the food here.
Sale of 300 plates in 5 hours
Suraj tells that he wakes up every day at 4 in the morning and starts preparing masala, papdi etc. to decorate his stall. Everything is ready by 7 o’clock. After this, take some rest and leave home at 10 o’clock. After covering a distance of three kilometres, they set up their stall near UCO Bank on Begusarai-Khagaria road by 1 pm. After this, the stalls remain set up until all the goods are exhausted. Generally, by 6 pm, 250 to 300 plates of chaat, Golgappa etc. are sold. He tells that there is a crowd of customers to eat chaat, golgappa etc. from his place.
Quit studies and set up a chaat stall
Suraj tells that when he was studying in eighth standard, the financial condition of the family was not good. Because of this I dropped my studies. While struggling with unemployment, I was not able to understand what work to do. During this time the idea of setting up a chaat stall came to mind. After this, he gradually started helping his family with his earnings.
Now daily sales amount to Rs 3500 to 4000. Ashish Kumar, standing at Suraj’s stall, said that only after standing in the queue can the plate reach his hand. Here they serve spicy chaat to people for just Rs 20. He told that Papdi Chaat is prepared by mixing papdi, chickpeas, chaat masala, finely chopped onion, curd, three types of chutneys and tamarind water, which is spicy and also delicious in taste.
