The results of the Gujarat assembly elections are out. This time the Bharatiya Janata Party has created a new record. In Gujarat, which has 182 assembly seats, 156 BJP candidates won the elections. The Congress suffered the most. The Congress came straight down to 17 from 77 seats. Means Congress had to bear the loss of 60 seats. At the same time, this time only five candidates of the Aam Aadmi Party, which claimed to form the government, could win the elections. The SP candidate won one seat, while the remaining three seats were won by independent candidates.

Congress’s Kiritkumar Patel defeated BJP’s Rajuben Desai by 17,177 votes in Patan assembly seat in Patan district. INC’s Kiritkumar Patel got 1,03,505 votes. Whereas, BJP candidate Rajuben had to satisfy with 86,328 votes. You were at number three. Its candidate Laleshbhai Thakkar got 6,808 votes, which was 3.3 percent of the total votes. A total of 14 candidates, including BSP and AAP candidates, forfeited their deposits. Whereas, NOTA got 2,481 votes.

Congress got victory in 2017

The Congress had also won the Patan seat in the 2017 assembly elections. In this election, Congress had made Kiritkumar Patel its candidate from this seat. Patel defeated BJP’s Ranchodbhai Desai by 25,000 votes. A total of ten candidates were in the fray here. Apart from these two, the deposits of the remaining eight candidates were forfeited.

Congress won three seats in Patan district in 2017

Patan assembly seat is one of the four seats under Patan district. In 2017, the Congress had won three of the four seats in the district. At the same time, BJP was successful in winning one seat. Before 2017, the BJP had won from here for six consecutive times. In 1990 and 1995, Arvindbhai Patel won on a BJP ticket. And in 1998, Mohanbhai Patel had won here.

In 2002 and 2007, Anandiben Patel led the BJP to victory here. Anandiben became an MLA in 2012 from Ghatlodia seat of Ahmedabad. Anandiben was made the Chief Minister of the state in 2014 after Narendra Modi became the Prime Minister. Whereas, in 2012, BJP candidate Ranchodbhai Patel had won from this seat.

Out of the total 14 elections held so far in Patan seat, Congress and BJP have won six times each. On the other hand, Jansangh and Janata Party have won once each.
