Bhaum Pradosh Vrat Katha
According to the legend, an old woman lived with her son in a city. The old woman had deep faith in Hanumanji. Once Hanuman ji thought of testing his devotee. One day Bajrangbali disguised himself as a Brahmin and reached the old lady’s house and started calling – Is there any Hanuman devotee? Who will fulfill our wishes? Vriddhi lady immediately came out and said what is your wish Brahmin Dev.
Hanuman ji expressed his desire to have food and asked him to lick some land. The old woman refused to lick the land and said that she would do some other work besides this, Bajrangbali asked her to stick to her word. Hanuman ji expressed his second wish to the old lady and said that call your son and I will cook food on his back.
The old woman got scared after hearing such words of Hanuman ji but she could not go back on her word. In such a situation, he had to hand over his son to Hanuman ji. The disguised sage Hanuman ji made the old woman’s son lie down on his stomach and lit fire on his back. After lighting the fire, the old woman went to her house with a sad heart.
When the food was ready, Hanuman ji told the old woman to call her son also, the food is ready. When the elderly woman called her son, he came running to his mother. The old woman was surprised to find her child alive. She bowed to the sage, then Hanumanji appeared in his real form and blessed the old woman with devotion.
Monthly Shivratri Story (Masik Shivratri Vrat Katha)
According to the legend, there lived a hunter named Gurudruha in the forest of Varanasi. One day he wandered in the forest from morning till night but he did not find any prey. That day was Shivratri Tithi. He started resting on a Belpatra tree in the forest itself, then a deer came there. As soon as he tried to shoot an arrow, a Belpatra and the water accumulated on the tree due to rain fell on the Shivalinga installed below. The hunter unknowingly worshiped the first Prahar of Shivratri.
The deer’s eyes fell on the hunter. He told the hunter that the children were waiting for him at home. After listening to the deer, the hunter left it. After this the deer’s sister passed there. Then Gurudruh offered his bow and arrow. Again Belpatra and water fell on Shivalinga. In this way the second Prahar puja was done. When that deer also said that she would leave her children at a safe place and come again, Gurudruha felt pity on her too.
After some time, a deer came in search of his doe. Then the whole process happened unknowingly and in the third prahar also Shivlinga was worshipped. After some time, all three deer and deer came to the hunter as per their promise. Seeing all this Gurudruha became very happy. Before he could kill everyone, the puja of the fourth prahar was also completed.
By fasting from morning to night without eating or drinking anything, he unknowingly performed the fast and worship of Shivratri. In this way he was liberated from his sins and also gave up the idea of killing deer. Due to which his sins were instantly burnt away. As soon as sunrise came, he gave up the idea of killing all the deer. Then Lord Shankar appeared from Shivling and gave him a boon and said that Lord Ram will come to his house in Tretayug and after that he will be free from the bondage of birth and death.
