Crocodiles sometimes create a lot of terror. They enter urban areas and injure and even kill people. But in Lake Tanganyika of Burundi in East Africa, there lives a monster named Crocodile. Because of this, the local people living on the banks of the lake have been living in fear for decades. There are many stories about this which have taken the form of legends. This monster, which is about 21 feet long, has killed hundreds of people so far.
Earlier people thought something else
When bodies and severed legs began to appear along the lake shore in the 70s, villagers spoke of a serial killer who roamed the area. However, as the corpses began to pile up, people began to realize that it was no ordinary human being who was committing these murders. No, the bloodthirsty killer was actually a giant Nile crocodile.
Its size started increasing
Gustave is believed to have been born in the 1950s or 60s somewhere along the Nile River. Experts believe that when he was young, he would have followed the eating pattern of most other crocodiles, hunting fish and small mammals. As the animal grew, it became impossible to catch small nimble prey.

Experts who first saw the creature estimate that it could be as big as 21 feet or about 6.5 meters, and weigh as much as a car (about a ton). Gustave is believed to have possibly killed hundreds of people during the 80s, although locals fought back against the cannibal.
The crocodile’s tough skin shows signs of a spear wound on its shoulder, as well as several bullet marks from machine gun fire. It seems to be bulletproof as bullets have no effect on it. Gustave has a rich history. There have been many well-planned and long attempts to catch and kill it. According to experts, crocodiles like Gustave, who is about 70 years old, can live more than 120 years.
