There are a total of six lakh five thousand ration cards in the district. Under the National Food Security Act, free food grains are distributed every month at government ration shops. Some rich people are also taking government ration under the guise of poor people.
This came to light when the District Supply Department received a list of ineligible people from the government. According to the list, there are about 28 thousand people who pay income tax and also take government ration. District Supply Officer KB Singh said that the list received from the government is of potential ineligible people. We have formed a team and started the verification work. After the verification is complete, action will be taken as per the rules.
Ration cards were made in the name of servants
According to sources, the investigation has revealed some names of people who are driving expensive cars and living in bungalows. But they have also got ration cards made in the names of their servants. Apart from this, there are some women who are taking widow pension and are also taking ration in the name of their husbands on the ration card.
