PFI Phulwari Sharif Case: NIA on Saturday (January 4, 2025) arrested Mohammad Sajjad Alam, a main accused in Patna’s Phulwari Sharif PFI case, from Delhi’s Indira Gandhi Airport. The accused had returned to India from Dubai.
The NIA special court of Patna had issued an arrest warrant against Mohammad Sajjad Alam, a resident of East Champaran district of Bihar. Besides, a lookout circular was also issued against him.
‘Sajjad used to send illegal funds from Dubai to Bihar’
According to NIA investigation, Sajjad Alam is a trained member of the banned organization Popular Front of India (PFI). He was involved in illegally transferring funds from Dubai to PFI members in Bihar. These funds were sent through a syndicate present in UAE, Karnataka and Kerala and were used to promote the criminal activities of PFI.
‘There was a conspiracy to create an atmosphere of terror’
This case was first registered by Phulwari Sharif Police in July 2022. PFI members are accused of conspiring to create an atmosphere of terror in the country and spread hatred between different religions. His activities were related to efforts to disturb peace and harmony and spread discontent against India. According to NIA, PFI was trying to establish Islamic rule in India on the basis of its document named “India 2047 Towards Rule of Islam in India”.
NIA’s 18th arrest in this case
After taking over the investigation of this case, NIA has so far arrested 17 accused and filed a charge sheet. The arrest of Mohammad Sajjad Alam is the 18th in this case.
What was the matter?
In the year 2022, NIA had busted a big conspiracy of PFI by conducting a raid in Phulwari Sharif, Bihar and exposed this matter. After this, NIA had conducted search operations against the banned organization PFI and people associated with it in Karnataka, Bihar and other places including Kerala.
