On Thursday, on the date of Basant Panchami, the celebration of Baba Vishwanath’s tilak started at the Mahant’s residence of Vishwanath temple located in Tedhineem. Mangala Aarti was performed for the Panchbadan silver idol of Baba Vishwanath from 4 to 4.30 in the morning. From six to eight o’clock in the morning Baba’s milk anointment was performed by the Brahmins with the recitation of the hymns of the four Vedas. Fruit bhog was offered to Baba from 8:15 am, after that five Vedic Brahmins performed Rudrabhishek from 8:30 am to 11:30 am with juices of five types of fruits under the guidance of Pt Sushil Tripathi.

Baba was bathed again at 11:45 am. From 12:00 to 12:30 mid-day bhog arpan aarti was conducted by numerologist Pt. Vachaspati Tiwari. From 12:45 to 02:30 auspicious songs were sung by women.

From 02:30 to 04:45, the doors of the room were closed for Shringar, meanwhile, Sanjeev Ratna Mishra did special Shringar of Baba as a bridegroom. After the evening aarti and bhog from 04:45 to 05:00, the doors were opened for the darshan of the devotees from 5 in the evening. Devotees saw Baba in the form of bridegroom.

At 6:30 in the evening, Tilakharu Baba, a Kashi resident from the Hanuman temple located at Bagla Dharamshala in Tedhinim, left for Mahant Awas with a plate of tilak accompanied by the sound of drums.

According to tradition, social worker Keshav Jalan offered Tilak to Baba on behalf of the residents of Kashi by taking the material of Tilak in seven plates. When the Tilakotsav procession reached Mahant’s residence, the ceremony of Tilakotsav was completed in the presence of Mahant Dr. Vice-Chancellor Tiwari.
