‘PM had apologized, said- we made a mistake’, claims NRI businessman returned during farmer’s movement

Pravasi Bhartiya Samman 2023: year 2023 Among the NRIs who have been given the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman in 2015, there is Darshan Singh Dhaliwal, an NRI settled in America. Darshan Singh Dhaliwal has claimed that PM Modi had apologized to him in front of 150 people, in which he had expressed grief over his big mistake.

Actually Darshan Singh Dhaliwal is the same NRI who was sent back from New Delhi airport on 23-24 October 2021 for anchoring during the farmer’s movement. On Tuesday, the same Darshan Singh was awarded the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman by President Murmu.

PM said – made a big mistake
Speaking to The Indian Express after receiving the award, Darshan Singh said, “The Prime Minister had apologized in front of 150 people for sending me back and said ‘humse badi bhool ho gayi, aapko bhool ho gayi, aapko bhool ho gayi, par aapka badappana hai jo hamare kahenge’. But still came.”

This story of conversation between Darshan Singh and Prime Minister is of April 2022 when PM Modi met Sikh delegation from all over the world at his official residence. During this, the Prime Minister, referring to the contribution of Sikhs, said that “the Sikh community has played an important role in strengthening India’s relations with other countries.”

Why was Darshan Singh sent back?
Recalling that incident of October 2021, Darshan Singh said that the authorities had given only two options before him. Darshan Singh said, “I was told to either mediate by stopping anchor or go back.”

Darshan Singh Dhaliwal had gone to America in 1972. Today he is a successful businessman and runs a chain of fuel stations there. Darshan Singh told that in the winter of December 2020, when the farmers were in Delhi, it started raining during that time. He said “I saw the video, they were sleeping amidst the rain. It was winter. I felt these people needed help. I decided to anchor. Delivered them beds, blankets and quilts.

Dhaliwal told that whatever he did was just because of humanity. It has nothing to do with politics. He said “I did it for the people.”
