When was this palace built

If you translate Istana Nurul Iman in Hindi, it will be “Palace of the Light of the World”. The construction of this palace was started in 1981 by Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah. The construction of this palace was completed in just 3 years i.e. in 1984. About 1.4 billion dollars were spent in building this palace.

In today’s Indian Rupees, this would be Rs. 1,17,53,53,20,000. This palace was designed by Filipino architect Leonardo Locsin. The Sultan had clearly instructed that this palace should be such that it gives the message of a new Brunei after independence from the British.

How special is this palace?

The world’s largest palace, the Istana Nurul Iman Palace, is spread over 2,00,000 square meters. Apart from 1,788 rooms, 257 bathrooms, this palace also has a banquet hall capable of hosting 5,000 guests at a time.

Apart from this, the palace also has parking space for 110 cars, an AC stable for 200 polo horses, 5 large swimming pools and a mosque. The specialty of this mosque is that 1500 people can offer namaz in it simultaneously.

What is the design of the palace like?

In the design of the palace, you get to see a mixture of Brunei’s Islamic culture and Malay traditions. On the outside of the palace, you see shining golden domes, in which 22 carat gold has been used. However, even after this, this palace is not the most expensive palace in the world. The title of the most expensive palace is with Buckingham Palace in London. The price of this palace is approximately 2.9 billion dollars.
