PM Modi’s Kerala Visit: Prime Minister Narendra Modi On August 10, the Prime Minister will visit the landslide-affected areas in Wayanad, Kerala. The Prime Minister will conduct an aerial survey of the devastation in which more than 300 people lost their lives.

On 30 July 2024, a landslide occurred in Wayanad district of Kerala due to heavy rainfall. 420 people have been confirmed dead, while 150 people are reported missing. In addition, at least 273 were injured. A special team of army personnel, SOG officials and forest officials are conducting a search operation in Sunrise Valley at Sujipara inside the forest.

Indian Army will soon end the rescue operation

After a ten-day long rescue operation that began after July 30, the Indian Army is set to return from Wayanad soon. The Army is expected to hand over the rescue operation to the NDRF, SDRF, Fire Force and Kerala Police. ISRO’s analysis shows that the landslide covers an area of ​​86,000 square metres with an extent of 8 km.

CM Vijayan made this appeal to the central government

Addressing a press conference, the Kerala Chief Minister said that the state has requested the central government to declare the devastation as a national disaster and a severe calamity. Chief Minister Vijayan said that so far 420 bodies have been post-mortemed and search and rescue operations are underway in Wayanad.

Announcing the PM’s visit to the landslide-hit area, the CM said the state was expecting central assistance for rehabilitation. “The central government has appointed a nine-member committee to submit a report in this regard. The committee chairman visited today and we are expecting central assistance for rehabilitation,” Pinarayi Vijayan said. “We are hopeful that the PM will understand the situation first-hand and take a favourable stand,” he added.
