PM Modi Nigeria Visit: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday (17 November 2024) left for Brazil to attend the G-20 summit after completing his first visit to Nigeria. Here he held bilateral talks with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and interacted with the Indian community. This was the first visit of an Indian Prime Minister to Nigeria in the last 17 years. Before Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in 2007, the then Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh had visited Nigeria.
PM Modi reached the capital of Nigeria early on Sunday. This was the first visit of an Indian Prime Minister to Nigeria in the last 17 years. After concluding the visit, PM Modi wrote on ‘X’, “Thank you to Nigeria for the meaningful visit. This visit will strengthen and encourage India-Nigeria friendship.”
Nigeria honored Modi with national honor
“Prime Minister Narendra Modi concludes a fruitful visit to Abuja, Nigeria,” the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said in a post on ‘X’. During the visit, PM Modi was honored with Nigeria’s national honor ‘Grand Commander of the Order of Niger’ (GCON). He became the second foreign dignitary to receive this honour. Earlier in 1969, this honor was given to Britain’s Queen Elizabeth.

Purpose of PM Modi’s visit and next steps
PM Narendra Modi Was in Nigeria as part of a three-nation tour. Their final destination will be Guyana. Leaders participating in the G-20 summit to be held in Rio de Janeiro on November 18-19 include PM Modi, Chinese President Xi Jinping and US President Joe Biden.
