The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) has issued an important instruction to the Telecom Department (DoT). According to this, now Aadhaar based biometric verification has been made mandatory for all new SIM card (SIM Card News) connections. The purpose of this step is to stop the increasing misuse of mobile connections obtained through fake documents. Let us tell you that illegal SIM cards are purchased through fake documents and then they are used wrongly.
According to the report, earlier users could use any government ID, such as Voter ID or Passport, to get a new mobile connection. However, biometric verification through Aadhaar is still required to activate the new SIM card. Retailers will no longer be able to sell SIM cards without following this rule.
Government’s strictness on fake SIM cards
This decision has been taken after the recent review meeting of the telecom sector. It was revealed that fake SIM cards play a role in financial scams. The investigation revealed instances where multiple SIM cards were linked to the same device, which was violating telecom rules and promoting cyber crimes.
PMO gave these instructions
Now strict action will be taken. The PMO has directed the Telecom Department to cooperate with law enforcement agencies and identify and take action against criminals. Retail sellers issuing SIM cards using fake documents will have to face strict action. The government has now taken strict steps to stop cyber crime and stop buying fake SIM cards.
