pollution is danger for existence of fireflies study

Fireflies and Pollution: Seeing the twinkling of fireflies, it seems as if the stars have descended on the earth. You must have tried to catch them many times. Although fireflies are rarely seen in cities, but now their numbers are decreasing in villages too. The existence of these small insects (Fireflies) that glow on bushes and trees at night is now under threat. The reason for this is pollution and less greenery. A very shocking revelation has been made in a research regarding this. Let us know about this research…

Due to this reason fireflies are decreasing

Fireflies, one of the bio indicators, glow at night. They are thin and flat and gray in appearance. Their eyes are big and legs are small. They fly with the help of two small wings. Fireflies lay eggs underground and in the barks of trees. It mainly eats vegetation and small insects. Fireflies also protect our fruits and vegetables from insects. However, the threat of pollution is also increasing, which is destroying their existence.

What does research say?

Not much research has been done yet on fireflies. Wildlife Institute of India (WII) has done a study on this. Researchers of the institute in collaboration with SGRR University have published the first such research paper. Research conducted in Doon Valley has found that the number of fireflies in urban areas has reduced significantly as compared to forest areas.

Increasing pollution and less greenery are responsible for this. This research paper has been done by research scholar Nidhi Rana under the guidance of Dr. VP Unyal, the then senior professor of Wildlife Institute of India and Dr. Rayal, Head of the Department of Zoology of SGRR University. The research has been published in the country’s prestigious Indian Forester General.

6 species of fireflies are in danger

According to Nidhi Rana, 6 species of fireflies have been found in Doon Valley. Where the number of fireflies is much more than in cities. The number of fireflies in urban areas is negligible compared to forest areas. This shows that due to increasing pollution and decreasing greenery, there is a threat to the existence of fireflies. If this situation continues then the coming generations will not be able to see fireflies.
