The news of Poonam Pandey’s demise was revealed on 2 February, but on the morning of 3 February, Poonam announced her survival on her own Instagram. Poonam Pandey got trolled badly since that day. Poonam Pandey has come under criticism for spreading fake news of her ‘death’ to spread awareness about cervical cancer. Poonam Pandey once again posted on Instagram and wrote, ‘Kill me, crucify me, hate me, but save the one you love.’

A marketing agency named Shabang was running this campaign in collaboration with Poonam Pandey. He also apologized and said, ‘Yes, we along with Hotterfly were involved in Poonam Pandey’s initiative to spread awareness about cervical cancer.’ He further said, ‘To start with, we would like to sincerely apologise. Especially towards those who or their loved ones are facing difficulties of any type of cancer.


Hotterfly is a lifestyle and entertainment portal targeting millennial women. Explaining the dramatic announcement, which many saw as a cheap PR stunt, Poonam Pandey’s agency has issued the following statement. It reads, “Our sole mission of action was to raise awareness about cervical cancer. In the year 2022, 1,23,907 cervical cancer cases and 77,348 deaths were reported in India. After breast cancer, cervical cancer is the most common disease in middle-aged people in India. Cancer is the second deadliest disease affecting women in India. Many of you may be unaware, but Poonam’s own mother has bravely fought cancer.

It concluded by claiming that this is the first time in the history of this country that the term ‘cervical cancer’ is trending more than 1,000 times. Reiterating that Poonam Pandey’s agency has also apologized to those who have been hurt by this initiative. The agency said, ‘We understand that our methods may have sparked debate about the approach. We regret any inconvenience caused, but if this move raises much-needed awareness and deaths can be prevented, it will have a real impact.
