1983 batch IAS officer Preeti Sudan will be the new chairman of the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). Which has now been announced. Recently, UPSC Chairman Manoj Soni had offered his resignation. Which has been accepted and now the command of UPSC has been handed over to Preeti Sudan.
Who is Preeti Sudan?
Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), one of the most prestigious institutions of India, has got a new captain. Retired IAS officer Preeti Sudan has been given the responsibility of UPSC Chairman. Preeti Sudan is a 1983 batch IAS officer. She started her service in Andhra Pradesh cadre and then held important positions in many central ministries. She has also served in international organizations like World Bank and WHO. After working in various departments for 37 years, she retired from the post of Union Health Secretary in 2020. In 2022, she was made a member of UPSC and now she has been made the chairman of this institution.
Important role in the corona period
During the Corona pandemic, when the country was in crisis, Preeti Sudan was the Union Secretary in the Ministry of Health. She wrote a letter to all the states and union territories and recommended taking care of migrant laborers. She was also a member of the Independent Panel of the World Health Organization (WHO).
Daughter of Haryana
Preeti Sudan, a resident of Haryana, has done M.Phil from London School of Economics and also has MSc in Social Policy and Planning. In 1983, she completed her graduation in Social Policy and Planning. Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC) Passed the exam and became an IAS officer in Andhra Pradesh cadre.
Experience in making major decisions
Preeti Sudan has served in important departments like Ministry of Women and Child Development, Ministry of Defence, Department of Food and Public Distribution. She has also been a consultant in the World Bank. She has made significant contributions in many important schemes of the Central Government, such as Beti Bachao Beti Padhao and Ayushman Bharat Mission. She also played an important role in banning e-cigarettes.
