The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has cancelled the appointment of trainee IAS officer Pooja Manorama Dilip Khedkar, who allegedly cheated in the Civil Services Exam 2022, and barred her from all future examinations of the commission.
On July 18, the Union Public Service Commission issued a show cause notice to Khedkar alleging that he had committed fraud by changing his identity to attempt more than the limit allowed under the exam rules. He was given time till July 25 to respond, but he requested an extension till August 4.
Was given time till 30 July
The UPSC considered her petition and gave her time till 3:30 pm on July 30 to respond. The Union Public Service Commission clarified that this is the last chance and no further time will be extended. If the response is not received within the stipulated time, the UPSC will take action without any notice. But Khedkar failed to respond. After investigation, UPSC found that Khedkar had violated the rules of Civil Services Examination 2022. Her appointment has been canceled and she has been barred from all future UPSC examinations.
Verification of data of candidates
UPSC examined the data of more than 15,000 successful candidates from 2009 to 2023. It was found that apart from Khedkar, no other candidate had made more attempts than the rules. Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC) The commission says that Khedkar had changed his name and his parents’ name, which led to a lapse in the process. The commission is strengthening its process to prevent such incidents. In response to other complaints, the commission said that it only conducts a preliminary investigation whether the certificate has been issued by the officer or not, whether its date and format is correct or not. It is not the job of the commission to check the authenticity of the certificates. It is the job of the concerned officers.
