Putham Pudhu Kaalai Vidyadha Review: It is a pleasant experience to watch the recently released Tamil language anthology Putham Pudhu Kaalai Vidiyaadha on Amazon Prime Video. Generally, it is believed that Tamil cinema i.e. Rohit Shetty type of cinema, flying cars, dangerous stunts, shocking thrashing of twenty-five people by the hero and full of melodrama, but the fact is that Tamil cinema has always had some Beautiful films have been made in which priority has been given to story and acting. Puttam Pudhu Kalai Vithiyata is another step taken in this direction. In 2020, the first part of this anthology, Puttam Pudhu Kaalai, was released in which well-known directors like Gautham Menon, Suhasini Mani Ratnam and Karthik Subbaraj directed one story each. Puttam Pudhu Kaalai is a comparatively new director in the genre, whose directorial ability is tremendous but he is not that popular.
Mugakawasa Mutham
Writer, editor and director Balaji Mohan is the most successful director in this anthology. His hold on human sensibilities is worth watching. There are some sweet moments in the duty of the policemen engaged to stop the movement of people on the roads during the lockdown. At one such check post, a police constable Murugan (Tejinthan Arunasalam) and a lady police constable Kuyili (Gauri Kishan) fall in love. After a few days, the lady constable is shifted to some other check post leaving some street. A boy comes on a bike at Murugan’s check post and requests that his girlfriend’s father is getting married to someone else, so he wants to go and meet her once. Taking advantage of the opportunity, Murugan goes with the boy and with the help of Kuyili, unites the boy and the girl.
The story is very simple because the characters are simple but the acting is amazing. The acting of both Gauri and Teji is beautiful. Director Balaji has taken all the characters from real life. A music video is also made by the policemen to spread awareness against Kovid which brings some laughter in this romance. The song, sung and composed by Sean Roldan, is also great fun.
loners
Director Halitha Shamim has written a story based on an amazing situation, on seeing which one starts remembering the past lockdown incidents. After breaking up with her boyfriend, Nallathangal (Lijo Mol Hose) wraps her saree in her pajamas for an online wedding. After this, everyone is expressing their sorrows in an online session, in which Dheeran (Arjun Das) is also present. Nalla and Dheeran start talking to each other, gradually both are attracted to each other, they also meet face to face at a grocery store. In the midst of all this, Dheeran’s friend’s dog who lives with Dheeran dies due to Covid. A broken relationship of Nalla and a tangled truth of Dheeran connects the two together.
The story is of the present day. From set design to work from home and the truth of closed businesses due to lockdown can also be seen. Lijo Mol and Arjun Das both are successful and talented actors. Arjun’s heavy voice has a grain of truth in it and Lijo doesn’t seem to be acting. The music is by Gautham Vasu Venkatan and is heard like a character in every scene. This film is beautifully made.

Nowadays, one will not get to see a better character artist than Malayalam actor Jeju George, but in this film, written and directed by Madhumita, Jeju does so much acting without speaking that one remembers Sanjeev Kumar. Murali (Jeju) and his wife Yashoda (Nadia Moidu) are husband and wife stuck at home due to the lockdown. Yashoda is an eminent flute player but over time the growing sourness and tension between husband-wife relationship has silenced the music. Both do not talk to each other. Jeju always makes his presence known by coughing and Nadia by the sound of utensils. The tension is so deep that many times the audience feels that both should hold hands, spend time face to face and say let’s be friends. When Nadia coughs, she thinks she has got Kovid and she isolates herself. Jeju makes medicine, decoction and all kinds of things for him, while he does not even know how to cook properly. Due to the delay in getting the reports, this work of Jeju gets delayed for a few days. Both keep thinking about each other and Jeju finally realizes that he loves Nadia a lot.
The amazing thing is that both of them have spoken dialogues. There is no need at all. Where there is emptiness, there is wonderful music of Kartikeya Murthy. In the role of parents of a young girl, both have touched the heights of acting. Jeju, who buys a full bottle from the liquor delivery man at home, when he secretly hears the sound of Nadia’s utensils, he slowly stops at a small bottle. Amazing romance. This story, acting, direction should be given full hundred marks.

The story is weak and the acting is also therefore not very effective. Very fine things are taken care of in films made on gay relationships, otherwise they become caricatured. Arjun (Sanat) remains confused about his relationship with his partner Arun (Paul). He does not want to accept this relationship openly in the society, because he is afraid of being thrown out of the society. Arjun meets his school friend Velu (Dilip Subramaniam) who is now a gangster. In the passing conversation of both, it is known that despite being a big gangster of the city, Velu could not save his wife from Kovid, nor could he talk to her in the last days. Velu, who trusts in his strength, is very scared of his son’s questions. At last Arjun tells the truth to his parents and starts living with Arun. The climax shows Velu’s son along with Arjun and Arun and Velu becomes the coach of the children’s football team.
The story is difficult to understand. Initially, when Arjun is seen talking to Arun in a muffled voice on the phone, it seems like a natural scene, but after Velu’s arrival, the whole story gets scattered. The conversation between Velu and Arjun takes up more than half of the entire film. This strange idea of comparing the lock down with the lock down of not being able to tell about being gay is very strange. This is the first effort of writer S Guhapriya and director Surya Krishna.
Nizal Tharoom Idham
The last story is written by Richard Anthony and Praveena Sivaram. There is a lot of depth in this story and for acting, he has put full responsibility on the shoulders of experienced Aishwarya Lakshmi. Shobi (Aishwarya), busy with work, is unable to talk to her father and misses his calls every time. One day suddenly he gets a call that his father has died in the night. Shobi is stunned. Busy with his life, Shobi wants to somehow sell the house and return to his city and get busy with work, but a mountain of memories of his father’s house breaks down on him and he starts feeling sad about the fact that He did not speak to his father for several weeks, on the pretext of being busy with work. Now there is no father, there is work, but due to this busyness, his father will not be able to come back.
Aishwarya is in the best role of her career and she has also shown her talent in the last scene of this film. We are forced to fight with ourselves, our past because of loneliness, memories, covid. Every moment has looked like a challenge. In the beginning a new dish was prepared everyday and now it seems that they should be fined but let them go out of the house. These mind-crushing moments that have passed in the last two years, cannot be accounted for now. Life is either over or its beauty has gone. Richard Anthony’s direction is good but the expectation was a bit high as the story was very good.
This anthology is a watchable cinema. Many misconceptions related to Tamil cinema will be removed, but more than that, new forms of story telling will be seen.
