Rainbow is round in shape, then why is it visible as half from the earth

Everyone must have seen a rainbow. Seeing a rainbow after rain is a wonderful feeling. When a rainbow is formed in the sky, its shape looks like a half moon. But do you know that the shape of a rainbow is completely round, which is not visible. Today we will tell you why only half the shape of the rainbow is visible, and from where it is visible in its full shape.

Rainbow

Seeing a rainbow in the sky after rain is a unique feeling. People travel miles to see a rainbow and want to see that beautiful feeling. When you see a rainbow, it often appears in the form of a half circle or an arc. But do you know that in reality a rainbow is completely round. Now the question is that why only half of the rainbow is visible when it is round and from which place on earth can the full rainbow be seen.

How is a rainbow formed

Rainbow is formed by the union of sun rays and water droplets. When the sun rays collide with rain drops, these rays get divided into seven colours, which we see as a rainbow. Its seven colours prove the colourful beauty of nature. However, we are often unable to see the full circular form of the rainbow. There are many reasons behind this, which create obstacles in seeing this natural sight.

Let us tell you that when seen in the open sky, there is a place where the surface of the earth and the blue sky appear to meet each other. The point at which they appear to meet is called the horizon. At the same time, the earth’s surface and the horizon do not allow the entire rainbow that we see to come in front of our eyes. Therefore, to see a complete round rainbow, you have to go to a very high place, from there only the rainbow will be visible in its complete round shape.

Rainbow is formed in the opposite direction of the sun

You must have noticed one more thing that the rainbow is always formed in the opposite direction of the sun. It means that if your face is towards the rainbow, then the sun is behind you. This is the reason that it is seen in the west direction in the morning and in the east direction in the evening. If you are lucky, then you can see a complete round rainbow while traveling in a flight.
