Kerala BJP News: The Bharatiya Janata Party is engaged in finding its ground in the state of Kerala, South India. In the Lok Sabha elections held last year, BJP won one seat in the state after a long time. Assembly elections are due in Kerala next year and in such a situation, BJP has started its preparations. Under this, it is now almost decided that former Union Minister Rajiv Chandrashekhar will be the state president of Kerala BJP.

Formal announcement remains

BJP leader Rajiv Chandrashekhar is the only nominated candidate for this post, so now the formal announcement is yet to be made. According to the report of the news agency PTI, on Monday (24 March 2025), after the party’s state office council meeting, Central Supervisor Prahlad Joshi will officially announce his appointment. Rajiv Chandrashekhar filed two sets of nomination papers for this post at BJP’s state headquarters in Thiruvananthapuram on Sunday (23 March 2025).

Political experience of two decades

On this occasion, state president K Surendran and senior BJP leaders Kummanam Rajasekharan, V Muralitharan, PK Krishnadas, MT Ramesh as well as Union Ministers Suresh Gopi and George Kurien were present. Chandrasekhar has two decades of political experience. He has worked as Union Minister of State for Electronics and IT, skill development and entrepreneurship as well as Water Power Departments. He has served as a Rajya Sabha member from Karnataka and BJP’s national spokesperson three times. He is the vice president of the Kerala unit of NDA.

Defeat in Lok Sabha elections

Rajiv Chandrashekhar, a popular face in Kerala, contested the 2024 Lok Sabha election from Thiruvananthapuram as a BJP candidate, but he lost to Shashi Tharoor of Congress by a margin of 16,077 votes. Born in a family of Kerala origin in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, Chandrashekhar has a family relationship with Thrissur. By making Chandrashekhar the president of Kerala BJP, the BJP wants to strengthen its position among the upcoming local body and Hindu upper caste voters in the assembly elections.
