The film also got the title of the boldest film of that era. Mandakini made her debut with this film. She became a star overnight because of her beauty, but the hero Rajiv Kapoor did not get the recognition he expected.
Rajiv Kapoor was the son of showman Raj Kapoor
Rajiv Kapoor comes from the famous Kapoor family of Bollywood. He was born on 25 August 1962 in Mumbai (Bombay). Being the son of showman Raj Kapoor, his entry into films was inevitable.
He started his film career as an actor in the 1983 film ‘Ek Jaan Hai Hum’. This film flopped at the box office. But, father Raj Kapoor made “Ram Teri Ganga Maili” to relaunch his son.
When the film came on the big screen, everyone was impressed by Mandakini’s beauty. She became a star overnight and only Mandakini’s scenes were discussed everywhere. After the success of the film, Mandakini started getting offers, but Rajiv Kapoor’s morale was broken.

According to media reports, the success of “Ram Teri Ganga Maili” also became the reason for a rift between father and son. Rajiv believed that he was not given the place in this film that he deserved. This rift between father and son increased so much that he did not even attend his father’s funeral.
Rajiv Kapoor worked in a total of 13 films in his career. He appeared in ‘Aasman’, ‘Jabardast’, ‘Mera Sathi’, ‘Lava’, ‘Ram Teri Ganga Maili’, ‘Lover Boy’, ‘Preeti’, ‘Jaljala’, ‘Shukriya’, ‘Hum To Chale Pardes’, ‘Naag Nagin’ and ‘Zimmedar’. Out of these, only ‘Ram Teri Ganga Maili’ got success.
Rajiv Kapoor could not do any magic even in production and direction
He also tried his hand at film production and direction, but he could not show any great magic there either. Rishi Kapoor and Randhir Kapoor’s younger brother Rajiv Kapoor married Aarti Sabharwal. But, they got divorced after some time.
He died in Mumbai on 9 February 2021 at the age of 58. It is said that he had a heart attack at home. After this, the family took him to Inlaks Hospital in Chembur, but the doctors declared him dead.
