The results of the Gujarat assembly elections are out. This time the Bharatiya Janata Party has created a new record. In Gujarat, which has 182 assembly seats, 156 BJP candidates won the elections. The Congress suffered the most. The Congress came straight down to 17 from 77 seats. Means Congress had to bear the loss of 60 seats. At the same time, this time only five candidates of the Aam Aadmi Party, which claimed to form the government, could win the elections. The SP candidate won one seat, while the remaining three seats were won by independent candidates.

Hirabhai Odhavjibhai Solanki of BJP defeated Ambarishkumar Jeevabhai Der of INC by 10,463 votes from Rajula assembly seat in Amreli district. BJP candidate got 78,482 votes while Congress got 68,019 votes here. Independent Karanbhai Baraiya finished third. Baraiya got a total of 19,186 votes. On the other hand, Bharatkumar Baldaniya of Aam Aadmi Party, who came at number four, got 5,294 votes, which was only 2.95 percent of the total votes. Barring the BJP and Congress candidates, the deposits of 13 others were forfeited. Whereas, NOTA got 2,829 votes.

Congress got victory in 2017

The Congress had won the Rajula seat in the 2017 assembly elections. In this election, Congress had fielded Ambarishkumar Jeevabhai Der as its candidate from this seat. Der defeated BJP’s Heerbhai Solanki by 12,000 votes. A total of seven candidates were in the fray here. Apart from these two, the deposits of the remaining five candidates were forfeited.

Congress had won four seats in Amreli district in 2017.

Four of the five seats in Amreli (Amreli, Rajula, Lathi and Sanwarkundla) were won by Congress candidates, while one seat was won by the BJP candidate. Before 2017, BJP had won here for four consecutive times in 2012, 2007, 2002 and 1998. BJP’s Hirabhai Solanki was successful in winning all four times. In 1995, Madhubhai Bhuva of Congress won the Rajula seat. Whereas, in 1990, Madhubhai Bhuva won on a Janata Dal ticket. Before 1990, there were a total of seven elections, including the by-elections held in 1980, in all of which Congress candidates had won.

Congress has won this seat nine times in the total 15 elections held so far. Whereas, BJP candidates won this seat five times. Janata Dal has been successful in winning here in 1990.
