Original meaning of the word Ram 

The word Ram is derived from the Sanskrit word Ram. And it is made up of gham. Ram means to rejoice or to be absorbed and Gham means the empty space of the universe. In this way, the meaning of Ram is the element contained or absorbed in the entire universe i.e. Brahma himself present in the universe. It is written in the scriptures, “Ramante Yoginah Asmin Sa Raman Uchyate” That is, the void in which yogis remain immersed in meditation is called Ram.  

Why do you say Ram only twice to greet?

You have often heard people say Ram-Ram to greet them. Have heard. There is believed to be a Vedic viewpoint behind this. According to the Vedic point of view, the Matrik coefficient (total of quantities) of Purna Brahma is 108. This is completed by saying the word Ram-Ram twice, because ‘R’ is the 27th letter in the Hindi alphabet. The quantity of ‘Aa’ is the second letter and ‘M’ is the 25th letter, hence together the sum is 27 + 2 + 25 = 54, meaning the sum of one ‘Ram’ is 54. 

Twice By saying Ram-Ram the total becomes 108 which is an indicator of complete Brahma. Whenever we do any chanting, we are asked to chant it 108 times. But just by saying Ram-Ram, the entire rosary is chanted. Therefore, it is customary to say Ram-Ram for greeting.

 

Who named God, Ram

When the first son of King Dashrath was born in Ayodhya, he was named ‘Shri Ramchandra’. The naming ceremony of Shri Ramchandra was done by Maharishi Vashishtha, one of the seven sages. Vashishtha was the royal guru of King Dasharatha.
