For this reason Danny had rejected ‘Sholay’
Danny Denzongappa got the role of Gabbar in ‘Sholay’ before Amjad Khan, but at that time he was busy shooting for Firoz Khan’s film ‘Dharmatma’ in Afghanistan. Because of this, Danny could not become a part of ‘Sholay’. After this, famous 70s actor Ranjeet was approached for the role of Gabbar. The actor himself made this disclosure during an interview. He also told that he had rejected the film for the sake of friendship with Danny.
Ranjit left the film for the sake of friendship
During an interview with Radio Nasha, Ranjeet said, ‘I had received an offer to play the role of Gabbar. The production people of Sholay came to me and asked me to play the role of Gabbar. Danny and I had worked in some films by that time. I told him that Danny has to come and go in my house, so I will not be able to do this film because he is my friend.
Bollywood got a new villain
Ranjeet further said, ‘I saw the news on the screen that Danny was stuck in Afghanistan and I snatched the film from him. So I told him that if Danny says that I do not want to do this film, take anyone in it, then there is no objection in doing it. I will have to talk to him and if he agrees, I will do the film. In those days it was not so easy to contact someone immediately and the production people could not wait that long because many big stars were involved in the film. Then Amjad Khan got this role. It is known that Amjad Khan had made a lot of headlines by playing the role of Gabbar in ‘Sholay’ and then Bollywood had got a new villain.
