Ranji Trophy 2022-23: The Ranji Trophy match being played between Punjab and Railways at the Karnail Singh Stadium in Delhi was full of drama on the second day. The Punjab team decided to stop the match in the middle of their second innings and they refused to return to the field for batting. The Punjab team said that the pitch was not suitable for batting and refused to bat, calling it dangerous.
Punjab was reduced to a score of 162 runs till tea time on the first day. After this, Railways also lost seven wickets for 77 runs on the same day. After bundling out the Railways for 150 runs in the first session of the second day, the Punjab team took the field to play the second innings. In the second innings, Punjab lost four wickets for 18 runs and lunch was done. Punjab refused to return to the ground after lunch and called the pitch dangerous to play on. The umpires tried hard to persuade the Punjab team, but they could not succeed.
The third day’s play will be on fresh pitch
The umpires have decided that the third day’s play will be held on a fresh pitch on Thursday. This pitch was prepared by a neutral curator who was called from Ranchi. The match can no longer be continued on this pitch which has given a lot of help to the fast bowlers and a fresh pitch will be used for this. After the match was stopped, the coach of Railways also admitted that there was irregular bounce on the pitch and due to which one of their batsmen got injured.
