Pilgrimage Destinations: If there is any pilgrimage center at the top among the religious places of India, then it is Varanasi of Uttar Pradesh. This year i.e. in 2022, Varanasi remained the most preferred pilgrimage destination for the people. This information has been given by the Oyo Cultural Travel 2022 Roundup Report. It has been told in the report that after Varanasi, Tirupati, Puri, Amritsar and Haridwar were also included in the favorite religious places for the people. Along with these cities, Shirdi, Rishikesh, Mathura, Mahabaleshwar and Madurai were also included in other strong spiritual tourist destinations of India, which were most liked by the people. This year saw a significant increase in the number of people visiting these places as compared to last year.
Varanasi is one of the top pilgrimage centers for both Hindus and Buddhists. Its popularity was more than the religious tourist places of whole India. Most people do not like to visit a place again. However, when it comes to pilgrimages, they are ready to come here any number of times. Not only the elderly, but a large number of youth are also involved in the people coming to the pilgrimage. Most of the travelers are now excited to explore rich cultural sites, unknown places (where they have never been before), royal palaces and religious places.
Varanasi remained the top destination
Ahead of this year’s festive holidays, global hospitality technology platform OYO has revealed interesting insights on spiritual and pilgrimage travel across India. According to OYO’s booking data insights, the month of August saw the highest demand for pilgrimages. According to OYO’s analysis of booking data between August and October (2022), religious places in India saw the highest demand for room bookings, with Varanasi being the top destination. Interestingly, due to the festive holidays in India, the maximum crowd was seen here on 13 August.
Maximum number of people gathered in Shirdi as well
Varanasi topped as a pilgrimage destination in terms of room bookings. This year also saw a significant increase in the number of people. The booking demand was highest in Shirdi (483 per cent), Tirupati (233 per cent) and Puri (117 per cent) followed by Varanasi. A significant increase in room bookings was also observed in Amritsar and Haridwar. Along with these cities, Mathura, Mahabaleshwar and Madurai have also emerged as religious tourism destinations in India, registering an increase in the number of devotees in the last one year.
