Republic Day 2023 Parade: On the occasion of 74th Republic Day, a grand parade took place on the duty path in Delhi. Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi was the chief guest at the Republic Day celebrations this year. On the occasion of Republic Day, a spectacular view of the pride of the country was seen on the duty path. The heritage of diversities woven into the unique unity of India, women power and its achievements in the modern era, the blueprint of future India and the capability of the army to protect the country were demonstrated. 1. President Draupadi Murmu arrived at the venue for the Republic Day celebrations along with Chief Guest Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi. President Draupadi Murmu unfurled the tricolor at 10.30 am and the parade began with a 21-gun salute to the tune of the national anthem. The grand parade was a mix of the country’s military might and cultural diversity. Earlier, PM Modi along with Defense Minister Rajnath Singh and the chiefs of the three services paid tributes at the National War Memorial.

2. The first Republic Day parade took place at Central Vista Avenue after the name of Rajpath was changed to Dutypath. In the 74th Republic Day celebrations of the country, mainly different forms of women power were visible. A contingent of the Egyptian Armed Forces and a music band also took part in the Republic Day parade this year. The Egyptian marching contingent consisted of 144 soldiers from the main branches of that country’s armed forces and was led by Colonel Mahmoud Mohamed Abdulfattah ElKharasawi. The parade began with a march by a contingent of the Egyptian Armed Forces.

3. The all-women contingent of the Central Reserve Police Force was one of the highlights of the year. Women were involved in many other marching contingents including the Navy. The naval contingent led by a lady officer consisted of 3 ladies and 6 Agniveer soldiers. These were the soldiers of the first batch of the new Armed Forces Recruitment Scheme. This time the salute of 21 guns was given by 105 mm Indian cannon in place of the old 25 Lodha cannon. It reflects self-reliant India in the defense sector.

4. Indian military equipment in the Republic Day parade featured “Made in India” and was in line with the spirit of self-reliant India. Main battle tank Arjun, Nag missile system, K-9 Bajra system were displayed in the parade. The demonstration of the Akash missile system was led by Lieutenant Chetna Sharma. This year, invitations were sent to people associated with the construction of Central Vista, Kartavya Path, New Parliament House, milk, vegetable and street vendors, who were given a prominent place in the galleries.

5. 23 tableaux of 17 states, union territories, and ministries and departments were displayed in the parade. These included tableaux of Uttar Pradesh, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Uttarakhand, West Bengal, Assam, besides Jammu Kashmir, Ladakh etc. Due to the layer of fog, the spectators could not fully enjoy the fly past. Millet Rangoli was displayed in the Indian Council of Agricultural Research’s tableau celebrating the International Year of Millets declared by the United Nations.

7. A major attraction in the Republic Day parade was the camel contingent of the Border Security Forces. A lot of enthusiasm was seen in the audience regarding the camel squad on the duty path. The 144-member contingent of the Indian Navy was led by Lieutenant Commander Disha Amrit in the parade. Along with this, a tableau of the Navy was also presented in the parade, in which the force’s multidimensional capability and women power were demonstrated.

8. The parade showcased equipment and tableaux of the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) that focused on effective surveillance, communication and threat response to the nation’s security. This includes other surveillance tools including the Indigenous Defense System (WHAP).

9. Param Vir Chakra, Maha Vir Chakra, Ashok Chakra winners also took part in the parade. A contingent of 144 members of the Air Force also participated in the parade on Republic Day, which was led by Squadron Leader Sindhu Reddy. At the end, the thrilling fighter jets were seen flying over the duty path. People were eager to see the stunts of 50 warplanes even in low visibility amidst the fog.

10. Prime Minister Narendra Modi thanked the President of Egypt, Abdul Fattah El-Sisi, who was present as the chief guest, and said that his presence graced the event. In a tweet, PM Modi said, “I am grateful to President Abdul Fatah Al Sisi for gracing this year’s Republic Day celebrations with his dignified presence.”
