Republic Day Parade History: On hearing the name of 26 January, the first two things come to the mind of every Indian. First the Constitution of India and second the grand parade to be held in the capital Delhi on Republic Day. In 1950, on the date of 26 January, the Constitution of India came into force. That is, 74 years ago, for the first time, it was the day for every Indian to implement their own legislation. The constitution became the most authentic document for every citizen of the country and everything in it became the country’s dignity.
With the implementation of the constitution, India became a sovereign nation. Every single thing was its own, everything from the country’s geography to politics was done for its citizens. This sovereignty is protected by the great Indian Army, whose brave men are ready to lay down their lives for the motherland. Every year on January 26, a grand parade is organized in the capital, in which the army contingents, reminding of their history and pride, salute their Supreme Commander, the President of India.
first time at rajpath
Starting from Rashtrapati Bhavan, this parade ends at the Red Fort. Often people think that it is probably being organized since the first Republic Day. But it is not so, the parade was organized for the first time in 1955 on Republic Day. On January 26, 2023, this parade is being held on the duty path, but at that time it was named Rajpath (Kingsway). Since 1955, the place of this permanent parade has been changed four times.
changing location
Before 1955, the Republic Day parade was held at different places in Delhi. It was organized at Irwin Stadium in Delhi on the first Republic Day. After this, sometimes at Ramlila Maidan, sometimes at Red Fort and sometimes at Kingsway Camp, His Excellency the President took the salute of the parade.
For the first time in the year 1955, a parade was organized on Rajpath on 26 January. Since then this parade has been made permanent. Along with this, the saluting platform was also made permanent, where the country’s army salutes its Supreme Commander.
cultural tableau with military might
While the march of army troops on the Rajpath gives a feel of the intimidation of the country’s own military power, the cultural glimpse of the country is also seen in this parade in front of the country and the world. Tableaux of different states across the country also find a place in the parade, in which the shade of the culture is visible. The tableaux of different states fascinate.
For the first time in 1953, tableaux of cultural folk dance were seen on 26 January, which included tribal dances from different states. Cultural tableaux give an example of unity in diversity in the country. At the same time, every color of the country is given an opportunity to participate in it on this occasion.
