SIT Probe: The West Bengal government has formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe financial irregularities at RG Kar Medical College, the same college where a 31-year-old junior doctor was raped and murdered. The SIT will be headed by IGP-rank officer Pranav Kumar.
Other members of the SIT include Waqar Raza, DIG Murshidabad Range, Soma Das Mitra IG CID and DC Central Indira Mukherjee. The SIT will investigate all kinds of alleged financial scams from January 2021 to date. Soon after the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital rape and murder incident, students and doctors have alleged huge financial irregularities at RG Kar.
Statement issued regarding formation of SIT
In a statement, the special secretary to the West Bengal government said, “I have been directed to constitute a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to inquire and investigate the allegations of financial irregularities in R G Kar Hospital during the period from January 2021 till date.”
Ex Principal Sandip Ghosh accused
After the RG Kar rape and murder incident, students and doctors alleged massive financial irregularities at RG Kar. Former principal Sandip Ghosh was said to be the ‘mastermind’ of all those scams. The statement further said, “The SIT will have the freedom to access any relevant documents from government departments and private agencies to complete the investigation expeditiously.”
When will SIT present its report?
The statement further said, “The SIT will draw the services of other officers and staff from the Directorate of Police/Kolkata Police as and when required. The SIT will submit its first report to the state government within one month from the date of its formation.”
