Girls Will Be Girls: Actor and couple Richa Chadha and Ali Fazal’s first production film ‘Girls Will Be Girls’ has received the Sundance Film Festival Award. The film has received awards in two categories. At the Sundance Film Festival, ‘Girls Will Be Girls’ has been honored with the Audience Award for World Cinema category as well as the film’s lead actress Preeti Panigrahi as the Best Lead Actress.
Actress Richa Chadha is very happy on achieving this achievement of her first production film. The actress was seen getting emotional during the award announcement of the film. Richa has shared a video on her Instagram in which she is standing on the stage and is seen continuously wiping her tears.
‘Always wanted strong stories…’
Giving a joint statement, Richa Chadha and Ali Fazal said that they never expected such an overwhelming response for their first production at Sundance. He said- ‘There has always been a desire for strong stories, but achieving them was not always in our hands. This is why it is a pleasure to see our new actors receiving this world applause. This value inspires us to push the boundaries and tell new stories.
The director called Richa a ‘lioness’
‘Girls Will Be Girls’ is directed by Shuchi Talati. On this achievement of the film, he said- ‘The film’s achievement at Sundance is the result of the collaborative efforts of a dedicated team. Richa has protected this story and film like a lioness. It’s great to see that our story is resonating with audiences and critics and I hope it will raise important issues about coming-of-age experiences that we don’t often get to see on screen.’
