Richa Chadha Interview: Richa Chadha is one of those few Bollywood actresses, most of whose roles were offbeat and unconventional. From his first film ‘Oye Lucky Lucky Oye’ to the recent ‘Hiramandi’, he was seen experimenting with his characters.
Along with her name, Richa is also known by the names of her characters. People had just become acquainted with Nagma Khatoon of ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’, when her role of innocent Punjabi in her next film ‘Fukrey’ started garnering people’s applause.
Bholi Punjaban’s special role
‘Fukrey’, released in 2013, was directed by Mrigdeep Singh Lamba. All the characters in the film were remembered by people in some way or the other. From breasts to honey and redness. Some liked Zafar and some liked Pandit. But there was one role which became everyone’s favourite.
This role was of Bholi Punjaban, which was played by Richa Chadha. Bholi Punjaban was seen in every part of Fukrey since then. While talking to ABP News, Richa spoke openly about this role.
Some people had stopped Bholi from becoming Punjaban
Richa told that many people stopped her from becoming Bholi Punjaban. When asked the reason, she said, “People thought that doing this role would stop me from getting ads for beauty products. My management team felt that by doing this we would not even get dance shows. Basically one is acting and one is the earning around it which for girls comes from these categories only. Like cosmetics, beauty products, dance shows and live appearances. So if you play such tom boy characters or rough characters, then there is a fear that you will not be able to get the benefit of all these things.
‘Those who were refusing to do the role were also in their right place’
Richa further said that those who had refused her were also right in their place. Richa says, “They were right in their place because they thought that if I play this character, other ways of earning may be affected.” However, she said that it is your job to decide. Whether you choose iconic characters or keep those categories open as well.
‘I don’t mind earning money from other categories’
Richa says that apart from films, she has no qualms about earning money in other ways like ads and dance shows, but for this I do not want to give up my work and doing the roles of my choice. In response to this question, did the fear about the role of Bholi Punjaban that it might affect your earnings prove to be true or did the fear remain?
Richa says, “I had no such fear. It didn’t make any difference. People around knew it and they are right in their place because they know the business. When asked about Richa’s next projects, she told that after ‘Hiramandi’ I am going on a break of 6 months. Apart from this, one of his films is in edit.
