Every year a large number of people become victims of road accidents in India. According to a report by NCRB, there are about 4,50,000 accidents in the country every year. Out of this, about 1,50,000 people die and many people lose some or the other part of their body. It is believed that the maximum number of road accidents occur from 12 noon to 3 pm and from 2 pm to 5 pm. Let us know whether this happens due to sleep. Let’s know…

Sleep responsible for road accidents – study

1. In the study of World Bank, it was revealed that due to sleep disorder, the risk of road accident increases by 300 percent.

2. The second study is of Dr. Kirti Mahajan and Professor Nagendra Velaga of IIT Bombay in 2021. In this study, they found that drivers who get less than 5 hours of sleep are the ones who are most likely to have accidents.

3. Three years ago in 2020, the transport officials of Kerala found in a survey that 40% of the accidents on the highway are responsible for drivers who do not sleep properly. That means their sleep is not complete.

4. The fourth and last study was done in 2019 by the Central Road Research Institute. The study took place on the 300 kilometer Agra-Lucknow Expressway. According to the results that came out, 40% of road accidents happen due to lack of sleep on the part of the driver.

Most accidents happen at this time

Most of the car accidents happen from 12 noon to 3 pm. Because sleep comes after lunch.

Due to the time of deep sleep from 2 am to 5 am, the driver’s alertness is less and most of the accidents happen.

Why do road accidents happen due to sleep

1. Due to the lack of sleep, there is a decrease in the alertness of applying the brakes of the car, removing the foot from the accelerator or reducing the speed.

2. Most of the drivers who drive professionally at night have neither any kind of training nor driving experience.

3. There are many people who feel that by driving at night, they will reach the destination quickly, because there is less traffic. In such a situation, they drive with speed and due to this road accidents increase.

4. There are some people who do good driving during the day, but due to lack of experience in the night, they doze off and the risk of accident increases.
