Iran attacked with ballistic missile and drone

Iran attacked Israel with ballistic missiles and drones on Saturday night and early Sunday morning, after which an airstrike warning was issued across Israel. The attacks were carried out mainly in Jerusalem, the Negev desert and the Dead Sea in the south, the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights in the north, as well as the occupied West Bank.

Israel Defense Forces (IDF) spokesman Daniel Hagari confirmed during a press briefing that Israel had been attacked by ballistic missiles and drones from Iran. Air defense systems have intercepted some missiles, he said.

Israel’s Kan TV news reported that about 100 of the approximately 400-500 drones launched were intercepted before reaching Israel by allied countries, including US, Jordanian and British forces.

Israel’s rescue service said in a statement that a 10-year-old boy was seriously injured in a Bedouin village in the Negev. Parts of the missile fell near Umm al-Fahm, an Arab city in northern Israel, causing no casualties.

Kan TV news, citing a senior Israeli official, reported on Sunday that Israel is planning to respond to the Iranian airstrike.

The official said, “Iran has fired missiles at Israel from its soil for the first time, it will be responded to soon.”

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) confirmed in a statement on Saturday night that it had launched missile and drone attacks on Israel.

Kan TV news reported that the drones were launched from Iran as well as Iran’s friendly countries.

The Israeli military had earlier said in a statement that “the IDF is on high alert, as well as Israeli Air Force fighter jets and Israeli Navy ships on defense missions.”

Meanwhile, two Israeli officials, on condition of anonymity, confirmed to Xinhua news agency that several cruise missiles were also launched from Iran towards Israel. Iran has attacked Israel to avenge the killing of seven Iranian officials in the Iranian consular building in Damascus, Syria in early April.
