Russia-Ukraine War: Tensions between Russia and Ukraine seem to be rising once again. Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council and a close aide of President Vladimir Putin, has hinted at dropping the biggest bomb ever made in Russia on Ukraine, which is called the Father of All Bombs (FOAB). Moscow threatened that if Ukraine is allowed by its allies to use long-range missiles to attack parts within Russia, it will destroy a large area of Kiev.
Putin’s close associate threatened
This threat by the Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council comes at a time when the US and Britain are considering allowing Ukraine to use Western weapons to attack Russian territory. Dmitry Medvedev wrote on his Telegram channel that you can test someone’s patience only for a short time.
How dangerous is FOAB?
The official name of the FOAB is ATBIP (Aviation Thermobaric Bomb of Increased Power). The bomb weighs about 7,100 kilograms and reportedly has an explosive capacity equivalent to 44 tons of TNT. It is as dangerous as a nuclear bomb. The FOAB uses a thermobaric explosive, which is particularly destructive due to its ability to explode in the air. The FOAB was first introduced to the general public in 2007, showcasing Russia’s advances in conventional weapons. Russia developed this bomb in response to the US Massive Ordnance Air Blast (MOAB), often called the Mother of All Bombs (MOAB).
Dmitry Medvedev may be referring to the use of missiles like the RS-28 Sarmat, also known as Satan II. It can carry a 10-tonne payload to the international border. The use of Sarmat missiles with a 7-tonne FOAB warhead could bring Ukraine to its knees very quickly. Of course, the damage caused by a 7-tonne warhead would be heavy, but not as heavy as the damage caused by Ukrainian drones dropping 7 tonnes of TNT on Russian cities.
