Space Mission: Recently, a terrible and big incident has happened in space, which has also affected Indian-origin American scientist Sunita Williams. This incident has put scientists and astronauts around the world in serious concern.
In fact, a Russian satellite, RESURS-P1 (#39186), was already inactive and on June 26, 2024, it broke into more than 100 pieces and spread in space. This incident is so worrying and dangerous that due to this the astronauts on the International Space Station (ISS) had to take emergency shelter.
Impact on Sunita Williams
The biggest impact of this terrible incident in space has been on Indian-origin American scientist and astronaut Sunita Williams. Sunita is currently stuck in space during her mission on the ISS. Sunita Williams was with her fellow astronaut Butch Wilmore who was aboard Boeing’s Starliner capsule.
After the Russian satellite broke into pieces, Sunita and her fellow passengers had to immediately take shelter on the International Space Station. Let us tell you that this capsule was docked on the ISS on June 6. This was its first crew mission.
Due to this incident, it may take longer for Sunita and her fellow astronauts to return to Earth from space. NASA has announced that after this incident, uncertainty has increased regarding the return of Sunita Williams and her fellow astronauts from space to Earth.
According to NASA, the mission duration of Boeing’s Starliner mission was 45 days, but now it is being considered to extend it to 90 days. Giving information about this matter, Steve Stich, manager of NASA’s Commercial Crew Program, has said that the time limit of this mission has been extended to save its passengers from the debris of the Russian satellite spread in space.
Space agencies around the world are worried
After the Russian satellite broke down, its debris has scattered into more than 100 pieces. These are moving around uncontrollably in space at a very fast speed. They can collide with any other satellite at any time and destroy it. Due to this, the time limit of Sunita Williams’s journey has been extended. NASA and other space agencies are monitoring the debris of the Russian satellite and are making every possible effort to deal with this situation.
