S Jaishankar on Russia-Ukraine War: The war between Russia and Ukraine continues. In response to Japanese media’s question on India not criticizing Russia on Ukraine war, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Friday (8 March) said that when India’s territory was occupied by another country, the world did not recognize this. Maintained silence on the matter. Even today, some parts of India are occupied by other countries, but we have not seen the reaction of the world on this matter by invoking principles.
According to the report of HT, Foreign Minister S Jaishankar is on Japan tour these days. On behalf of the Japanese journalist, the Foreign Minister was asked whether India’s decision not to criticize Russia over Ukraine’s territorial violation should be seen as ‘double standards’. In answer to this question S. Jaishankar gave a befitting reply and said that even today some parts of India are occupied by other countries, but no reaction was given on this by the world community.
‘If the principle is not favorable then we ignore it’
Taking a direct dig at the western countries on this matter, S Jaishankar also said that when people consider principles suitable, they choose them and when those principles do not suit them, they ignore them. Something similar is the case with the occupation of India’s part. The countries of the world have maintained complete silence on this. No comments/reactions were expressed from their side.
‘Countries highlight the issues that suit them’
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar says that he believes that the world is a complex place and there are many important principles and beliefs. Amidst all this, sometimes it happens in world politics that a country chooses one issue, one position and one principle. Those countries highlight only that which suits them.
‘India experienced aggression right after independence’
Citing India in this matter, S Jaishankar also said that if one looks at the principle, we (India) know it better than any other country because we have experienced aggression right after independence. Due to this, India experienced attempts to change its boundaries. Not only this, even today some parts of India are still under the occupation of other countries.
‘The principle has not been seen implemented in the last 80 years’
Despite this, I have not heard or seen the world incorporating all this into a great principle and saying that we all go with India. Today, great principles are being invoked regarding India in the Ukraine war issue. He also said this with full force that I wish I had seen this principle implemented in the last 80 years. Taking a dig at the western countries, he said that these principles have been chosen only according to their convenience and favorable circumstances.
‘As the number of members increases, the organization loses its leadership and decision making capabilities.’
During the interview, Foreign Minister S Jaishankar stressed the need for reform in the United Nations Security Council (UNSC). He said that most of the countries of the world which are members of UNSC understand that there is a great need for reform in the United Nations. He told that when the United Nations (UNSC) was established, only 50 countries were its members. Today the number of these member countries is around 200. Jaishankar said that when the membership of an organization increases four times, then the leadership and decision-making ability is not the same as before.
Giving the direct example of China, Foreign Minister Jaishankar also said that those against change have found an easy way to delay it. Let us tell you that China is the only permanent member of UNSC which opposes India’s entry in the panel.
‘My membership in the Upper House of Parliament is safe’
S Jaishankar also answered the question whether he would Lok Sabha Elections Will we fight or not? He is currently a member of the Rajya Sabha, the upper house of the Parliament. He said that this decision is taken on the basis of the decision of the party leadership. By the way, I have been re-elected to the Upper House (Rajya Sabha) last year. My membership in Parliament is safe.
