Sachin Pilgaonkar revealed Ramesh Sippy Only Shot Amitabh Bachchan Dharmendra Scenes in Sholay


Sholay: There are some Bollywood films which have left their mark on Indian cinema. One film in this list is Ramesh Sippy’s Sholay. Sholay not only rocked the box office but also changed the definition of entertainment in the industry. This film brought masala to the industry. The film was written by the Salim-Javed duo. Amitabh Bachchan, Dharmendra, Sanjeev Kumar, Hema Malini, Jaya Bachchan and Amjad Khan were seen in lead roles in the film. One of the actors of the film has revealed about the film.

It has been more than 49 years since Sholay was released and yet it is still included in people’s favourite list. Sachin Pilgaonkar was also seen in this film. He has spoken openly about the film in a podcast.

Ramesh Sippy used to direct like this
While talking to YouTube channel Khaane Mein Kya Hai, Sachin said that he worked as an assistant director in the film. He told that director Ramesh Sippy was on the set only to guide Amitabh Bachchan, Dharmendra and Sanjeev Kumar. Rameshji decided to keep a second unit to handle some action sequences in which the main stars were not involved.

Sachin told how the second unit was led by famous stunt filmmaker Mohammad Ali and action director Azim. There were also two Hollywood professionals Jim and Jerry. Sachin said- At that time, there were only two ‘useless’ people in the unit – Amjad Khan and me.

Ramesh Sippa had included both Sachin and Amjad Khan in the production after recognising their interest in direction. He asked us if we would like to represent them. In response to this Sachin said- A blind man asks for one eye and suddenly he gets two.
