Derek asked the Prime Minister what he had done to improve the situation. While addressing a rally in Barasat on Wednesday (6 March), PM Modi said that the storm of Sandeshkhali will reach every part of West Bengal. He said that women power will play an important role in destroying the ruling Trinamool in the state.
TMC leader raised questions on PM Modi
There is an uproar in Sandeshkhali of North 24 Parganas district over the allegations of sexual harassment of women and land grabbing against suspended Trinamool leader Shahjahan Sheikh and his associates.
TMC leader Derek said in a post on his X handle, “Today the Prime Minister Narendra Modi Preached on women power. Three questions to you: Sir, why are there 51 cases of crime against women every hour? Why does BJP have 13 percent women in the Lok Sabha, why are there only 14 percent women in the list of 195 candidates?
TMC leader Derek’s third question was, “Why was no action taken against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP accused of sexually harassing wrestlers?” This question was about BJP MP and former Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief Brijbhushan Sharan Singh, who is accused of sexually harassing women wrestlers. However, Brijbhushan Sharan Singh Singh has rejected the allegations.
TMC mentioned Bilkis Bano case
Trinamool’s Rajya Sabha member Sushmita Dev questioned whether Modi has the moral right to speak on the steps taken by the government against rapists. He said, “BJP leaders and workers had honored the rapists of Bilkis Bano.”
11 convicts in the 2002 Bilkis Bano case of Gujarat were released and after their release from jail in 2023, BJP leaders welcomed them with garlands. However, on January 8 this year, the Supreme Court had canceled the Gujarat government’s decision to release those convicts.

TMC leader Sushmita Dev said, “You (Modi) are talking about women’s safety when women wrestlers from Haryana were beaten badly by Delhi Police for protesting outside Jantar Mantar in Delhi. Where was your helpline for women then?” Accusing Modi of adopting double standards, he claimed, “Your statements are nothing but a joke. Your real face is anti-women and the whole of India knows this.”
West Bengal minister and senior Trinamool Congress leader Shashi Panja said, “Given that BJP leaders have ridiculed Maa Saradha in a meme, PM Modi has no reason to take the name of Maa Saradha and Nari Shakti in his speech.” No right.”
