Kolkata Rape Murder Case: The CBI has arrested two more accused in the case of rape and murder of a trainee doctor in Kolkata, West Bengal. The CBI has taken action against former principal of RG Kar Medical College, Sandeep Ghosh and SHO of Tala Police Station Abhijit Mandal. The CBI has arrested Sandeep Ghosh on charges of destroying evidence of the rape and murder of the doctor, while the SHO Abhijit Mandal has been arrested on charges of delaying the filing of FIR.
Three accused arrested so far
Former principal Sandip Ghosh is in judicial custody in the corruption case at RG Kar Hospital, so the court has given permission to keep him on remand. Both the accused will be produced in court on Sunday (15 September 2024). So far three accused have been arrested in this case. Kolkata Police first arrested accused Sanjay Roy. The Kolkata High Court had given three weeks to the CBI to give a progress report of the investigation of this case, which will be presented before the court on September 17.

The parents of the deceased kept alleging repeatedly that the facts were tampered with. The CBI has questioned more than 100 people in the Kolkata rape case, while Sandeep Ghosh was questioned continuously for 15 days. The CBI had earlier conducted a polygraph test of Sandeep Ghosh on 26 August 2024.
Sandip Ghosh is currently kept in a solitary cell in the Presidency Central Jail, where he was brought earlier this week. Earlier, the Supreme Court had also refused to consider Sandip Ghosh’s petition against the Calcutta High Court’s decision ordering a CBI inquiry into the corruption case.
