During a latest interview given to Bollywood Hungama, Bhansali praised the opera performance given by the actors in the film Devdas and said that such acting techniques can be a challenge for today’s stars.
During the interview, when Sanjay Leela Bhansali was asked about his reaction on the changing acting process over the years, he said, “I think cinema has changed, technology has changed. Now a director looks at cinema from a different perspective. Script writers are writing in different ways and creating different types of roles. This is a great time for Indian cinema. Today great films are being made and amazing work is being done.”
He further said, “The tone and notes in which Devdas was being performed were high pitched and operatic… it was difficult to perform. In those days, directors demanded actors to be like that, but today, they ask actors to underplay and do subtle acting, which is good too. ,
He further added, “What Shah Rukh Khan, Aishwarya Rai, Madhuri Dixit and Kirron Kher did in Devdas were notes and tunes which today’s actors would not be able to do because they were a bit unrealistic and demanded a deep understanding of acting technique which was Shahrukh had handled it brilliantly. ,
Let us tell you that Devdas was based on the 1917 novel of the same name by Sharat Chandra Chattopadhyay. This film was highly praised and was commercially very successful upon its release.
The director also spoke openly about his friendship with Salman Khan. Let us tell you that Salman Khan has also acted in many films directed by Sanjay.
During the interview, Sanjay said, ‘The only person I am still friends with is Salman Khan. Even if Inshallah didn’t happen, he is still standing by me, he will call me. He will care about me. Are you okay? Is there anything (you need)? You messed up. He doesn’t care about my film. You, brother, you have done so many films with me, are you okay?’ And that’s all.”
Let us tell you that the duo of Salman Khan and Sanjay Leela Bhansali was involved in the production of ‘Inshallah’ but this project was stopped due to creative differences.
To this the director said, “During the work, we might have had a fight, our timing might not have been right, and it might not have been made at the right place. But after a month, he called me, and I Called him, and we talked, in the sense that I am lucky to have a friend who will talk once in six months and pick up where we left off.
Salman Khan and Sanjay Leela Bhansali have worked together in films like Khamoshi, Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, Saawariya.
After the grand success of Heeramandi, the director is now preparing to shoot his next film Love and War, starring Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt and Vicky Kaushal in the lead roles. This film will be released in December 2025.
