Satyam Shivam Sundaram casting Zeenat Aman doing this move to make Raj Kapoor cast her

Zeenat Aman Rupa Role: Zeenat Aman and Shashi Kapoor were in lead roles in the film ‘Satyam Shivam Sundaram’ released in 1978. The film was a blockbuster hit. This film was also in controversies. The film was directed by Raj Kapoor. Now Zeenat Aman has shared the story on Instagram as to how she got this film.

Zeenat Aman wrote in the caption- ‘Raj Kapoor’s 100th birth anniversary will be in December. Today let me tell you how I was cast in the film Satyam Shivam Sundaram. I am going to tell the story of my career.

How did Zeenat get Satyam Shivam Sundaram?

Zeenat further wrote- ‘Around 1976, we were shooting for Vakil Babu. Raj ji was playing an important role in the film. Whereas his younger brother Shashi Kapoor and I were playing lead roles in the film. In between takes, the technicians would change the set, adjust the lights and we cast members would pass the time. Whereas Raj had revolutionary ideas about his art and was full of enthusiasm about a film he wanted to make.

‘For some time he kept telling us a story idea about a man who falls in love with a woman’s voice, but is unable to connect himself with her appearance. He spoke with frankness and enthusiasm, but not even once did he hint that I could be a part of that film. I was already a star. And I was facing problems due to their lack of interest in casting me in the film. I knew it was because of my modern image of mini skirts and boots. So I myself thought that Raj Kapoor should be convinced for this.

He further wrote- ‘I knew that Raj ji used to spend most of his free time on The Cottage set in the grounds of RK Studio. It was heard that he used to hold meetings here. Used to host small events. He often held meetings sitting on a clean mattress on the floor. So I took a step. One evening, after wrapping up the shoot early, I spent an extra 30 minutes in my dressing room and prepared myself like Roopa. I wore a ghagra choli, braided it with a paranda and then tried to make a scar by sticking tissue paper on my face with glue. When I reached The Cottage, John (Raj ji’s right hand man) greeted me at the door. He looked at me with surprise but agreed to my request – ‘Tell sir that Rupa has come.’ I will tell the further story tomorrow…’
