On June 4, a day before Environment Day, about one lakh Delhiites will take a pledge to do five things to save the river in a human chain to be formed on the banks of the Yamuna. On the basis of last month’s awareness campaign, the organizers have claimed that this is the first campaign since Mahamana Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya’s 1916 movement in Haridwar for river Ganga, in which people are being mobilized on such a large scale .
Nationalist thinker KN Govindacharya, on the basis of his experience of social and political life of nearly six decades, told the media at the Press Club that the kind of enthusiasm that is currently being seen in Delhi-NCR regarding the Yamuna Parliament, it is after Pandit Malviya. It is going to become the first biggest social movement. The society itself has come forward to save the river at its own level. It is expected that the results of the Yamuna Parliament will be fruitful.
On the other hand, Sanjay Singh, convenor of Jal Jan Jodo Abhiyan, reviving four small rivers of Bundelkhand, told that its flow is important for the river. Yamuna Sansad expects the government to make public the quantity of water being released from Hathinikund and Wazirabad into Yamuna river.
According to Sanjay Singh, with this, the society at its level will take a pledge to take five such steps in the Yamuna Parliament, which will have a far-reaching impact on the surface of the Yamuna. For this, the 22 km long human chain being formed between Wazirabad to Kalindi Kunj, except ITO and Kalindi Kunj, will be on the eastern banks of Yamuna. Preparations are in the final stage.
