The Mondays that fall in Sawan have special importance. This year, the month of Sawan is starting from 22 July 2024 and the first Monday of Sawan will also fall on this day. On this day, it is customary to keep a fast and perform the Abhishek of Lord Shiva.
On Mondays falling in the month of Sawan, wake up early in the morning, take a bath and wear clean clothes. After this, you can go to the temple or worship Lord Shiva at home. To perform Abhishek on Shivling, you will need ingredients like water, milk, Gangajal, honey, curd and ghee.
The Lord is pleased by performing Abhishekam on Shivlinga in the month of Saavan. According to Shiv Puran, Shiva himself is water. The importance of offering water to Shiva is found in the story of Samudra Manthan.
After drinking the poison Halahal, which was like the fire that came out of the churning of the ocean, Lord Shiva’s throat turned blue. Then all the gods offered him water to cool him down and to calm the heat of the poison. That is why water is definitely offered in every worship of Lord Shiva.
After this, offer Belpatra, Dhatura and Bhasma on Shivling. Then light incense and do Aarti of God. Do observe fast on this day. You can also observe fast on Sawan Monday by eating fruits.
By worshipping and anointing the Shiva linga with devotion and observing a fast on Mondays of the month of Sawan, all obstacles in life are removed and there is happiness and prosperity in the home and family.
