SC, ST Quota In Central Government Job: The Supreme Court has given a big decision in the quota within quota case. It has been approved and the decision of 2004 has been overturned. The court says that there is no problem in the quota within quota case. A seven-judge bench of the SC says that the state government can create sub-categories in the SC and ST category. However, its basis should be logical.

Let us tell you that after this order of the Supreme Court, the decision of the year 2024 has been changed in which the court had declared giving quota within quota as wrong. In the EV Chinnaiya case, the bench of five judges of the Supreme Court had said that sub-categories of ST, ST category cannot be created. The court says that reservation should reach the right people, while the ground reality is that some special classes are taking advantage of it.
what is the arrangement
If we talk about SC, ST reservation in the central government, then according to Article 16 of the Constitution, the system is something like this. All citizens under the state should get equal opportunities in employment. If we talk about scheduled castes and tribes, then the quota has been decided in this way. This quota is for direct recruitment open competition on all India basis and for central government jobs.
ST category – 7.5%
SC category – 15%
27% for OBC category
10 percent for EWS category.
For those posts which are recruited on All India Basis through any other means instead of direct open competition, this quota has been fixed.
For SC category – 16.66 percent
7.5% for ST category
For OBC category – 25.84 percent.
Talking about EWS quota, the Central Government gives 10 percent reservation to the economically weaker sections.
How many scheduled castes are there
The report of the Ministry of Social Empowerment and Justice shows that in the year 2018-19, there were 1263 SC castes in the country. Also know that only the President has the right to add or remove castes from a list. After today’s decision, the decision of the year 2004 has been overturned.
When did it start
The original idea of reservation came mainly to William Hunter and Jyotirao Phule in the year 1882. They were the ones who had imagined the reservation system based on caste. The reservation system which is in place today, in the true sense, started in the year 1933.
